Why Vallejo organizations choose a bilingual partner

A 2012 Brown University study named Vallejo the most diverse city in the United States, and today 39.6% of residents age 5 and older speak a language other than English at home, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. A brand here has to speak to many communities at once without losing its own voice.

That's the work we focus on. We help Vallejo organizations write messages that sound natural in English and in Spanish, and we apply them consistently on everything people see: the sign, the business card, the uniform, the flyer and the website.

Vallejo is also where we work with the widest range of clients: a financial firm, an engineering company, an insurance agency, community organizations, a dance and art school and a city council campaign. Each one needed something different, and each one deserved a brand that looks like it belongs to them.

A city of many communities

Vallejo's story is tied to the water. The Mare Island Naval Shipyard, founded in 1854, shaped the city's economy until it closed in 1996, and today the San Francisco Bay Ferry connects downtown Vallejo with San Francisco.

Vallejo's diversity shows in its businesses and organizations and in the languages their customers speak. We design brands that can carry two languages without looking crowded, so every customer feels the message was written with them in mind. Clear typography, simple icons and a consistent color system keep a brand recognizable even when the words change from one language to the other.

Nearly three in ten Vallejo residents (29.8%) are Hispanic or Latino. Community organizations such as Diaz & Loera Centro Latino and The Time is YA! Network, and local businesses such as Moon Azteca Dance and Art School and Monarch Engineers, are part of the community we've been glad to serve.

For nonprofits, campaigns and community leaders

Many of our Vallejo clients work for the community: a nonprofit, an education and civic network and a city council campaign. They share the same challenge: earning trust quickly, often with a small budget and a fixed date.

For a campaign, that means one identity used everywhere: a logo that reads well on a yard sign, colors that hold up on a door hanger, and the same message on flyers, shirts and social media. For a nonprofit, it means materials families can read in their own language and sponsors can be proud to support.

We plan these projects backward from the date that matters, whether it's an election, an event or a grant deadline, and we're upfront about what can be ready by then. Our nonprofits page explains how we work with community organizations in more detail.
